revenue from local traffic on the Chinese Section is very
great. They only run one local train each way per day, in addition to the "Slow Through".
11. The estimated revenue resulting from the
suggested improvements is very optimistic. The anticipated
increase in numbers of passengers could not possibly be
accommodated without a great number of additional 3rd
class coaches, more trains would be required to run, and
consequently working expenses would be increased.
The last item of the estimate is not understood.
12. The Table of Interest and Amortisation (page 12)
might be clearer if the rates of interest were shown.
The original loan was at 5%, while the new loan of
$3,000,000 ($1,000,000 to be provided by Government)
appears to be at 8%.
13. On the whole it is both refreshing and encourag-
ing to see that a serious attempt is at last being made
to improve the situation, but I should have felt happier
had the estimate of resulting revenue been more conserva-
tive.

P.S. Para.6.
A portion of the warehouse accommodation at the Canton terminus is let to a firm of feather mer chants who send all their goods by water and on one occasion at least a
consignment of goods (cement) sent by rail could not be cleared from the trucks for lack of the covered storage which this warehouse was designed to supply.
